The Ford Fusion underwent a redesign last year, so changes to the 2014 Ford Fusion are minimal. There is a new 1.5-liter engine, minor changes to available equipment and a new appearance package for the Titanium trim. The rest remains the same.
Which to us is a good thing. The redesign was a big change for the model and a great one for us. The Fusion was another car to benefit from Ford's global platform philosophy and now looks and feels better than ever!
Exterior
The most striking thing about the Ford Fusion is the exterior. It is modern, sleek and has a real premium feel. On first glance you have to look twice to see it is actually a Ford. That Aston Martin-esque front end, eagle eyed headlights, fluted flanks and rounded rear all shout premium to us.
Interior
The inside is no different. Materials are good, build quality is excellent and ergonomics really matter here. The seats are supportive and comfortable, the driving position is commanding with good visibility and the passenger space is just as good.
Sitting in the driver's seat is a nice experience. The wheel is comfortable, the instrument cluster modern and informative and the switches all solid and easy to use. The centre stack features an LCD screen if you opt for navigation, with heater controls underneath and then the shifter. It's a well thought-out cockpit.
Under the Hood
The engine choice is now all four cylinder. The 2.5-liter gasoline engine that develops 175 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque is the standard option. There is also a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that delivers 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque with the help of a turbocharger. A 1.6-liter EcoBoost is also available that produces 178 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.
New for the 2014 Ford Fusion is the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine. It uses direct injection and a turbocharger like the others and delivers an impressive 178 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque.
Being Ford, there are a wide range of trims and options available for the 2014 Fusion. The main trims are S, SE and Titanium. Each has the option to add features and packages to further personalize your car.
The Fusion S comes with the 2.5-liter engine, air conditioning, power accessories, keyless entry, Ford Sync, cruise control and auto lights. The SE adds alloy wheel options, adjustable driver's seat, satellite radio, exterior trim options and the full choice of engines.
